About the Item

Referred to as a "chaise fumeur" in French or smoking chair, this late nineteenth century faux bamboo chair was originally used by a gentleman seated straddled with his arms resting on the seat back while playing cards and smoking . Constructed of hand carved cherrywood, the chair sets on gently curved legs and features an upholstered seat and elbow rest at the top of the seat back. A unique piece, circa 1900.
