Chair 11 (with Finmar label) Designer: Alvar Aalto Year: 1929 One of Alvar Aalto’s first modern furniture designs. “Advertised as the ‘auditorium chair bar none’, the so-called row chair was created in 1929 through the cooperation of master carpenter Otto Korhonen and Alvar Aalto. This stacking auditorium chair is ideally suited as furniture in public spaces. It is known to have been used for this purpose for the first time in the Jyväskylä Defence Corps Building (Alvar Aalto 1926-29).” Description from Alvar Aalto Foundation Finmar Ltd. - Finmar Ltd., a wholesale firm, was one of the major importers of Scandinavian furniture to the UK in the period 1934-65. - Finmar had imported Alvar Aalto’s plywood furniture from Finland before the war (World War II, 1939). Information from a journal article “Scandinavian Furniture in Britain: Finmar and the UK Market, 1949-1952” The chairs have been collected from the same place, which means they are a set. 4 chairs available. Price PER chair. Repainted at some point. See the images for the Finmar tag condition: 1 chair has 1930's Artek Stamp(AALTO DESIGN - MADE IN FINLAND) and perfect Finmar tag 1 chair has Finmar tag with some repaint residue on it. 1 chair has Finmar tag with some repaint residue and hard to read, but still see "AR" from FINMAR 1 chair missing the Finmar tag, but has two nails for holding the tag.
