About the Item
This is an old Japanese primitive-style stool or stand, believed to have been crafted in the early Showa period (1900s–1940s). The material appears to be kiri (paulownia wood), known for its lightness and soft texture.
Remarkably, this piece was not assembled from multiple parts but carved entirely from a single block of wood. Its organic form preserves the vitality of the natural tree, resulting in a shape that conveys both strength and life. The legs seem almost as though they were transformed directly from the tree’s roots, a seamless fusion of nature’s design and human craftsmanship.
To prevent splitting at the base, an iron wedge has been carefully inserted in an unobtrusive spot. This subtle reinforcement shows not only practicality but also the maker’s sensitivity to aesthetics. Such thoughtful details reflect the skill and sensibility of the artisan who created it.
While it can serve as a small stool, it is even more compelling as a stand for displaying treasured objects or flower vessels. Placed in a room, it radiates a unique presence, bringing both stillness and rhythm to any interior.
The sculptural form, marked by the passage of time and nature, transcends functionality to exist as an art piece in its own right. It embodies the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi, where imperfections and distortions are embraced as part of beauty itself.
Top surface size: approx. 370 mm × 350 mm
Weight: 2.6 kg

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
