About the Item

This exquisite pair of early 20th-century side chairs represents the Karl Johan Revival style—Sweden’s distinct interpretation of the pan-European Biedermeier movement—a stunning return to the refined Neoclassical principles of the early 19th century. Crafted from beautiful dark flame birch, these sturdy antique chairs feature the iconic "Napoleonic hat" backs, named for their elegantly curved, scrolled crest rails. The central back splats are accented with finely carved, ebonized harps (or stylized palmettes), a nod to the classical motifs favored during the period. These pieces have been meticulously and completely restored. The restoration includes a spruce up of the original finish,  full repadding and expert reupholstery in a luxurious, new, high-end cut velvet stripe fabric, finished with a classic double self-welt trim. The rich color palette and texture perfectly complement the dark wood finish. Stylish and versatile, this pair is perfect for flanking a grand entrance, a fireplace, or an armoire. They also offer sophisticated extra seating in a living room, study, or formal dining room. Their classic lines and deep finish add a touch of timeless European elegance to any space. #BS-15158
