This is a pair of antique Venetian court chairs. An Italian, hand-carved oak decorative seat, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1890. Fascinating chairs, with eye-catching detail throughout Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Deliciously heavy oak stocks present deep chestnut hues Hand-carved craftsmanship decorates each chair Dome top to the stout back rest with dashing fan motif carvings Circular forms sit atop the upright stiles, each finished with chased pattern fields Distinctive court jester masques sit prominently to the centre, with pleasingly jovial renditions Diamond pattern band to the lower rail, uniting the whole Wide, flat seat base accentuated with large decorative patera Cupped carvings add a Gothic revival flourish to the seat edge Square aprons with block knees add a robust visual appeal Standing upon a quartet of circular feet, with turned and square section stretchers between This is a delightful pair of antique Venetian court chairs, unusual in their appearance.
