About the Item

A handsome and high quality pair of French 19th century Neo-Classical/Empire st. Mahogany and Ormolu side chairs. Each wonderful chair is raised on four square curved legs all connected by a square Mahogany stretcher. Above each cross bar that connects to the adjacent leg is a crossing Ormolu band with a rosette central reserve. The straight aprons above are decorated with square receded panels. The 'S' scrolled backrest is tastefully designed with three pierced Ormolu palmette pendants along the base with Ormolu Sphinxes facing away from each other above. The top of the backrest has a rectangular panel with a carved oval opening.
