About the Item

A very unique and highly detailed pair of Italian 19th century Louis XV st. Giltwood side chairs. Each elaborate and unusually shaped chair is raised by two cabriole legs in the front and gently curved square legs in the back. The two front 'S' scrolled cabriole legs are decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves while the square back legs display a smooth finish. The front apron contains Greek key patterns that flank the arbalest shaped scrolled foliate reserve. The crest shaped tapered back rest contains 'C' scrolled designs flanking the foliate reserve along the base. Extending up both sides are additional Greek key patterns as well as a scrolling foliate reserve. The extensive and tastefully decorated top crown contains wonderfully carved scrolling foliate designs. All original gilding throughout.
