Pair of Rare Teak Klismos Chairs by Ashley Hicks Jantar Mantar Collection 1999.
From UK-based Ashley Hicks premier collection of furniture, the Jantar Mantar Klismos side chairs were the first of his designs to be produced. Built by local craftsmen in Delhi, India, this pair is from the edition of around 70. Artisan-crafted with a Burmese Teak frame and a woven leather seat, Hicks took inspiration for the design from the first edition of Gislea Richter's book Ancient Furniture which had a measured drawing of the Klismos from the Stela of Hegeso in Athens.
Frame stamped Jantar Mantar. Wear from age and use. Gap in wood at seam, gouges to wood upper back (see photos.)
