Awesome pair of vintage Bohemian or Hollywood Regency wicker rattan peacock fan back chairs. Both chairs are in wonderful vintage condition. One chair had lost some of its rattan wrap on one of its legs, but we have replaced it beautifully. We have given them both a new coat of lacquer to bring their finish back to life. Please see photos, circa 1970s. When we found these chairs, we couldn’t wait to get them ready to offer to you. They are so fabulous! For over a century this beautiful and interesting wicker rattan chair with its peacock like fan back has been showing its face or should I say tail in the cyclical work of interior design. Its latest resurgence is calling on its popularity during the 1960s and 1970s pop culture. Originally designed in East Asia as a throne-like head framing seat reserved for royalty it is no wonder it became the place for celebrities to be photographed. Just a few of the celebrities who did so are Brigitte Bardot, Bette Davis, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Plant, Jasper John and let’s not forget the partially clad Sylvia Kristel in her famous scenes from the cult film series Emmanuel. I’m dubbing these chairs Bohemian Hollywood Regency but don’t let that limit what styles you use them with because they look equally as fantastic juxtaposed with the clean lines of a Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, a rustic or country décor and even the stately traditional. These chairs do not take a back seat in any room with their unconventional fanned-plume back shapes perched on hourglass shaped bases.
