Robert George's understanding of wooden furniture started in the most obvious of places. He discovered furniture in the trees. With around twenty years of studying arboriculture and making, he has a unique insight into his material which other makers are missing, especially when 90 percent of the contemporary and furniture and sculpture he creates, is made using wood he himself has felled. This gives each piece a delightful provenance and creates the opportunity for optimal creativity, especially as he can process the tree exactly as he sees fit to make the very most of the wood he has procured. Using choice sections for planking at his local sawmill and shorter sections or more characterful pieces, which would otherwise be untenable to other more commercial enterprises, for sculpture and expressive works. Robert has worked extensively with numerous, world leading, interior designers to create bespoke pieces and one offs, taking time to explore new finishes and forms which will complement the clients space perfectly.
