About the Item

A set of eight 20th century Regency style hand-painted Chinoiserie decorated side chairs, each with a black ground painted with gilt figural and architectural scenes in the manner of Chinese export imagery. The oval back splats are painted with individual narrative vignettes and supported by curved uprights with latticework splats below. The chairs are raised on tapering legs with painted decoration and retain their upholstered seat cushions. The set is consistent in form, scale, and decoration across all eight examples.
