About the Item
Rare side chair with the original lacquer finish and paper cord by Danish architect Viggo Sten Møller (1897-1990) from the 1930’s.
The chair is often sold as Arne Jacobsen since he used it in the interior he did for Novo Nordisk in 1935 but in reality this classic Danish modernist chair is designed by Danish architect Viggo Sten Møller.
was a Danish architect and writer. He was the father of Henrik Sten Møller. He was employed by Anton Rosen 1916-20, ran his own business from 1935 and worked in the Navy's Construction Service 1920-35.
During his time as a student at Rosen, he developed a lively interest in handicrafts and industry, and he was editor of Nyt Tidsskrift for Kunstindustri/Danish Kunsthåndværk 1932-53, consultant for the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek 1934-72 and for the Ny Carlsberg Foundation 1937-72, member of the board for the Academic Architects' Association 1938-40, head of the exhibition committee 1940-42 and director of the National Association of Danish Crafts 1943-53. He was head of the School of Crafts and Crafts 1953-67 and had a great impact on the promotion and success of Danish design in the 1950s.
