About the Item

A very striking Antique English Aesthetic Movement black lacquered chair. The chair has an openwork wood back carved as a fan of stylized feathers over a padded seat upholstered in a black and white striped velvet with brass nailhead trim, over scroll supports raised on openwork trestle legs ending in paw feet.. The chairback could be a stylistic representation of the heraldic feathers of The Prince of Wales, whom in the time of the Aesthetic Movement was Albert Edward. He became King Edward VII in 1901 upon the death of his mother, Queen Victoria. Dimensions: 35"h x 19"w x 18"d, 16"h (to seat) Condition: Good/Fair, wear to ebonized finish along right seat side with other scattered scratching and spots of rubbing consistent with age and use. Clean upholstery. Shows well. Ready to place. Provenance: Property from a Litchfield, Connecticut Estate Collection
