This is an exceptional antique Swedish Chesterfield sofa, upholstered in rich hand-dyed brown leather, dating from the early 20th century. It is a rare example of Scandinavian craftsmanship inspired by the classic English Chesterfield, and it has been fully restored while retaining all the warmth and character of age.
What sets this sofa apart is not only its striking look but also its incredible comfort. This has to be one of the most comfortable Chesterfield sofas I have personally ever come across.
Unlike many traditional Chesterfields, which can feel firm, this piece is fully coil-sprung throughout – in the back, the seat, the arms, and the base – with horsehair filling, exactly as they were made at the time. This construction creates a softer, more supportive sit, making it an ideal choice for both statement and everyday use.
The leather has been carefully stripped back and hand-dyed several times, resulting in a beautiful, warm brown finish that highlights the natural texture of the hide. Over time, the patina has deepened, giving the sofa immense character and presence.
A lovely additional detail is the small brass plates on the front feet, adding refinement and strength. The sofa is supported by square tapering legs, complementing its bold, timeless profile.
