About the Item

Danish Modern is a term that has become very familiar to design aficionados in the past decades. It evolved from the craft traditions of cabinetmaking in Denmark, bolstered by the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibitions from the 1920s to peak by the mid-century era. This three-seater sofa is a beautiful evidence of this heritage and the mastery of Danish cabinetmakers. Like the initial designers of Danish Modern, the creator of this sofa based its design on durability, reliability, beauty, and comfort. The streamlined look carries an inherent cosiness in it, which is a speciality of Danish design. The back is very gently curved, just enough to create the base of this impression, aided by the thick seat cushion, while the rest of the design is primarily in service of functionality. The openness of the design allows the back to stand out with its sectioned parts and inviting look. The upholstery greatly adds to the stylish look, accentuating the curves and the sheer size of the sofa. From the back, the sheer volume becomes even more apparent, and it seems unlikely to be supported solely by the exposed, stained wood legs. And yet, they provide perfect stability and visual appeal as well. The back legs are tapered and splayed, while the front legs are in a so-called club shape to add even more visual interest. The masterful sense of proportions, the curved back and the soft seat cushion guarantee functionality and comfort. However, this sofa’s defining feature remains the unique upholstery that immediately draws the eye. Thanks to the fabric, this stylish model can also serve as an accent piece.
