The French designer and architect Eileen Gray (1878-1976) initially designed this "Lota" sofa for Madam Mathieu-Lévy's Paris apartment in 1924, located on Rue de Lota. The design leans into a restrained modernism a language of simplicity and function, yet never sterile. The structure is immediately characterized by a horizontal presence, composed of two substantial frames lacquered in dark grey high gloss doubling as end tables. The comfortable cushions and large seat allow for ultimate relaxation.
