We are delighted to offer for sale this circa 1860-1880 fully restored original Swedish aged brown leather Chesterfield fully sprung sofa with hand carved oak Lion's paw feet.
This sofa base is very decorative and exceptionally comfortable for a Chesterfield, its fully sprung so the seat base, back and arms, the back rest is higher than a traditional English version so it actually sits well and supports your back.
It’s a fantastic looking and well made piece, the base platform is a traditional Victorian hand coil sprung affair, the piece de resistance on this sofa is the front panel is also sprung, what that means is on a normal sofa you have a long solid piece of timber running across the front and it sits behind your knee at the bend, on this sofa it is fully coil sprung so when you sit up or down instead of feeling that firmness you have a lovely comfortable spring! It is fantastically complicated and expensive to manufacture and only the absolute finest crafted pieces have it.
The sofa has very rare, hand carved Lions paw feet which are loosely based on a 17th century design, it really adds a sense of something extra special to an already interesting sofa.
