About the Item
Regency sofa covered in crisp black linen with ruched border horse hair squab seat.
Painted faux botanical marquetry of English hops and ivy by George Bullock
as seen in the Thomas Wilkinson tracings at the Birmingham museum England.
Bullock was one of the most exciting designers of his time, neoclassical influenced
designs incorporating English plants such as the hops and ivy seen here.
His customers during his brief career included the British royal family aristocracy and Napolean Bonaparte, who upon his defeat at Waterloo was imprisoned on St Helena and Bullock was commissioned to make furniture for the emperors island exile.
