About the Item
An exceptionally rare and important sofa designed by Johan Rohde (1856–1935), circa 1910.
This elegant piece showcases Rohde’s unique interpretation of neoclassical design, merging classical references with the clean lines and modern sensibilities that would later define Danish design.
Executed in rich mahogany with refined ebonized spindles and gracefully rolled armrests, the sofa embodies both luxury and restraint. The original seat webbing remains intact beneath the upholstery – a highly uncommon feature that speaks to the piece’s authenticity and historical significance.
Rohde was a central figure in early 20th-century Danish art and design. Known for his groundbreaking work with Georg Jensen, he introduced a modern, artistic approach to both silverware and furniture. This sofa reflects the same aesthetic values and meticulous craftsmanship for which Rohde’s designs are celebrated worldwide.
The sofa still has its original seat webbing preserved.
