About the Item
Laziness is a laid-back and spacious rocking armchair, crafted for sitting/lying down and unwinding. The low seat height from the ground draws inspiration from Japanese rocking chairs, while the wooden structure is strongly influenced by Brazilian modernist furniture. Its upholstery is soft and cozy, and can be covered in fabric or leather. This version is produced in solid freijó wood and velvet upholstery

am.o atelier
The brand
Founded by designer and film director Amilcar Oliveira, am.o was born from his desire to create furniture the old-fashioned way, using traditional woodworking techniques passed down through three generations from father to son. Each piece is crafted by hand, one by one, by the designer himself, employing joinery techniques without the use of nails and screws – using only certified solid wood, glue, and a lot of passion. For finishing touches, natural materials such as Indian cane and genuine leather are used, along with natural oils. The designer
Amilcar Oliveira hails from São Paulo, the capital city. He studied Radio and TV at ECA-USP and worked as a director at production companies like Sentimental Filmes and Your Mamma. Currently, he's part of the directorial roster at Mixer. In parallel, he studied carpentry at the Cosi de Legno school under Piero Calò, carrying on the teachings he received from his father and grandfather, who were both carpenters deeply passionate about this craft. Amidst the pandemic, he created his debut piece, the Square Armchair, and launched am.o, an artisanal design brand featuring his creations.

Leather, Jean Gillon
By Jean Gillon
Located in New York, NY
Available today, this Brazilian Modern “Jangada” lounge chair with stool in hardwood & leather by Jean Gillon designed in the 1960s is absolutely gorgeous!
The chair's name, "Jangada," was named after the small rustic fishing boats used by fishermen along the northern coast of Brazil. The “purplish” tone of the wood chair contrasts nicely with the iconic caramel leather upholstery, adding to its luxurious and elegant appearance.
The upholstery took three months to make and was done by some of the best upholsters in Rio de Janeiro following Gillon’s upholstery methodology (as is showcased in the vintage publications attached). Remains of the manufacturing seal can be seen in the wood base. The nets are new.
Owning a "Jangada '' lounge chair is not just about acquiring a beautiful piece of furniture; it's also about possessing a part of Brazilian design history and culture. This chair is a testament to Jean Gillon’s creativity and vision, and it would make an excellent addition to any interior space that values and appreciates the significance of this design.
Beyond its physical beauty and unique design, the "Jangada" lounge chair also embodies the Brazilian spirit, an specific aspect of Brazilian Modernism that can be seen in other brazilian icons like Sergio Rodrigues, the Tres Pies chair of Joaquim Tenreiro or the Canoa sofa of Liceu de Artes e Oficios.
The gorgeous set is showcased in our showroom next to a Novo Rumo rosewood credenza, a bar cart designed by Geraldo de Barros and the convo looks nothing less than spectacular

Astral Brazilian Contemporary Wood and Leather Easychair by Lattoog
By Lattoog
Located in Sao Paolo, BR
The “Astral” armchair is Lattoog's latest release for Empório das Cadeiras and is the youngest of a family of furniture affectionately baptized by the designers of Série Viralatas. two pieces of furniture, in general modernist classics, are fused (or syncretized) to result in a third design of an original piece of furniture, completely different from the others, but with a strong “genetic load” of its generative matrices. A concept invented by Lattoog in 2005 that has been a great influence for designers from Brazil and abroad as well. Here, strong but subtle references to Brazilian roots and culture are presented: Miscegenation, syncretism and “viralism”.
Astral is born from the fusion of the shapes of the Tank armchair...
