Marzio Cecchi
Born near Florence on March 1st 1940, Marzio Cecchi comes from a design environment, his mother being Giulia Carla Cecchi, a name famous in the world of fashion with her haute couture creations paraded at Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti in Florence, Italy. Marzio Cecchi was a famous architect from Firenze who totally designed his projects. He graduated as an Architect from the University of Florence. Marzio Cecchi was an eclectic and visionary Architect, Designer and Artist. He died in an accident in New York on January 1st 1990, leaving timeless designs and one of a kind pieces highly collectible on the market.

Marzio Cecchi was an Italian designer of great talent and innovation who left an indelible mark on the world of design. He was an assiduous participant in the artistic and cultural movements of his time, and unfortunately died prematurely in a tragic car accident in New York. Prominent among his most iconic and futuristic achievements is the Serpente sofa prototype with certificate, a work of art consisting of several modules held together by a tube and totally swiveling. This mid-century modern sofa is designed by the acclaimed Austrian furniture designer Johannes Spalt. The design is characterized by a solid construction based on sharp lines and angular shapes noticeable in the body of the seat and the chromed steel base, underlining the clear structured design. The metal legs elevate the seat in a graceful way, which establish an open and more transparent look to the whole unit. The tufted seat with buttons is upholstered in black leather. As outcome, this creates more visual interest and adds a graphical touch to the quite simplistic design. By only one hand movement the 'Constance' transforms from a comfortable sofa to daybed. A very elegant and also nifty technique.
Johannes Spalt (1920-2010) was a postwar Austrian architect. In 1952 he founded the collective "Arbeitsgruppe 4" together with Wilhelm Holzbauer, Friedrich Kurrent and Otto Leitner. Their ideas and designs are still a great example of Austrian architecture...
