About the Item

Hans Jørgensen Wegner was one of the central figures of Danish modern design, known for combining rigorous craftsmanship with an almost effortless sense of comfort and proportion. Working within the broader mid-century modern movement in Denmark, Wegner focused on honest materials, visible construction, and furniture made to be lived with rather than just admired. His collaboration with Getama resulted in seating designs where clarity of form and usability take precedence over ornament. The GE series belongs to this phase of his work, reflecting Scandinavian design in the postwar period. This model “GE-300” four-seater sofa is a clear expression of Wegner’s disciplined design language. The low, horizontal profile gives the piece a grounded presence, while the long seat evenly divided by cushions create a sense of rhythm across its length. The proportions are carefully balanced so that the sofa feels generous without appearing heavy, making it suitable for private interiors and larger architectural spaces. The upholstered cushions emphasize comfort and tactility, while the exposed wooden legs lift the body slightly off the floor, adding visual lightness. At the same time, the cylindrical legs balance the geometry of the body, angular and squared. The sofa’s structure is clear and straightforward, reinforcing Wegner’s belief that construction should be legible rather than concealed. As a four-seater sofa, the “GE-300” works equally well as a statement central piece and as generous seating ideal for hosting and relaxation. Its understated design allows it to adapt easily to different settings, while still carrying the unmistakable Danish modern look. This sofa stands as a strong example of Wegner’s ability to create furniture that feels timeless, practical, and refined, making it a compelling choice for interiors focused on enduring design. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Due to the nature and age of the wood, the legs may have some marks, scratches and discolouration. The sofa has been reupholstered recently in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be reupholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information. By Leif Hansen, Kronen
Located in Utrecht, NL
Leif Hansen’s Model 62 sofa is commonly referred to as the “Geisha” and was designed in 1959. This model is a strikingly elegant example of Danish modernism’s streamlined, luxurious aesthetic appeal to contemporary eyes. This three-seater sofa is made of two types of exotic woods and dressed in a premium light fabric. Its character is created by three main elements: the visually sectioned, fully upholstered body, the wooden accents on the arms, and the distinctively shaped legs. It says a lot when a model is representative not only of a designer, but also of a manufactory. So is the case with this Geisha sofa...
