About the Item

"Out/In" is an iconic sofa, designed by Philippe Starck with Eugeni Quitllet and manufactured by Driade, in polyethylene monobloc available in white or black colors with silver anodized extruded aluminum elements. Indoor and outdoor use. DIMENSIONS: D. 29.9", W. 79.5", H. 32.2", Seat H. 17.3" Since rotational molding has been in use for many years, its aesthetics had necessarily to enter a new phase. Nobody but Philippe Starck could make rotational molding take such step. With the outdoor collection Out/In, Starck, along with Eugeni Quitllet, moves into two directions: on one hand he enlarges dimensions of the high chair, particularly its height, turning such object into a shell or a bulwark; on the other hand, he doesn’t look for a sofa as an “iconic object”, but he rather uses some sophisticated stratagems, usually intended for “interior design”: for example, including essential aluminum planar surfaces as armrests into the design of these objects. Are such high chair and this almost functionalist sofa creating a “collection”? Sure, but outside the trivial bourgeois aesthetics devoted to be "all matchy-matchy". PHILIPPE STARCK is an internationally acclaimed French creator, designer and architect. His profound comprehension of contemporary mutations, his determination to change the world, his anticipatory concern for environmental implications, his love of ideas, his desire to defend the intelligence of usefulness and the usefulness of intelligence have accompanied one iconic creation after the other. From everyday products such as furniture and lemon squeezers to revolutionary mega-yachts, individual windmills, electric bikes or hotels and restaurants that aspire to be wondrous, stimulating and intensely vibrant places. This untiring and rebellious citizen of the world, who considers sharing his ethical and subversive vision of a fairer planet as a duty, creates unconventional places and objects whose purpose is to be “good” before being beautiful. Philippe Starck and his wife, Jasmine, mostly live on an airplane or in “middles of nowhere”.

"Tokyo-Pop" White or Black Monobloc Sofa Designed by T. Yoshioka for Driade
By Tokujin Yoshioka, Driade
Located in Brooklyn, NY
"Tokyo-Pop" is a white or black anthracite polyethylene monobloc iconic sofa, designed by Tokujin Yoshioka and manufactured by Driade. White version only is available in quick ship. Indoor and outdoor use. DIMENSIONS: D. 30.7", W. 69.5", H. 29.7", Seat H. 16.5" Tokyo-Pop collection was Tokujin Yoshioka's debut on the international design scene in 2002. Now he's considered as one of the masters of contemporary design. With his set of sofa, armchair and especially chaise longue and stool he seems to ignore the trivial qualities of rotational plastic molding and turn them into real sculptures featuring unforgettable and unusual forms. TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA, born in Japan in 1967 and winner of many awards, with pieces on display at the MoMA and the Cooper Hewitt in New York, the Victoria & Albert in London and the Vitra Design Museum, trained along with Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake, opened his own studio in 2000, and has worked with Japanese and international companies such as Hermès, Toyota, BMW and Swarovski, designing showrooms and installations. As a result of the success of the Honey-pop paper chair in 2001, he began establishing increasingly close links with the world of interior design, developing projects for Driade, Moroso and Kartell, amongst the others. The main feature of his creations is their poetic, light, dreamlike quality. His products, interiors and installations are the result of painstaking, complex research carried out on simple materials, combined with experimental technology. The awards he won include Design Miami...
