Sectional sofa, fabric, Italy, 1970s
This exceptional sofa stands as a prime example of postmodern design, characterized by its unconventional form and bold, angular shapes culminating in smooth, rounded edges. The sleek and streamlined base presents as two opposing, yet complementary, bent shapes, a striking contrast to the massive and voluminous body of the seat. The thick checkered seats, executed in a combination of black and off-white squares, provides excellent comfort whilst adding an additional layer of visual interest to the piece.
Please note that this item is in good, used condition. The fabric contains some loose seams and discoloration. Restoration can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. Established in 2006, Morentz has a team of approximately 55 restorers, upholsterers, interior advisers and art historians, making it a gallery, workshop and upholstery studio, all in one. Every day, a carefully selected array of 20th-century furniture arrives from all over the world at the firm’s warehouse, where the team thoroughly examines each piece to determine what, if any, work needs to be done. Whether that means new upholstery or a complete restoration, Morentz's aim is always to honor the designer’s intention while fulfilling the wishes of the client.
