We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare fully restored circa 1880 hand dyed Whiskey brown leather Chesterfield sofa with original horse hair padding, coil sprung all over and feather filled cushions This sofa is a very rare model, its fully sprung all over, the back, the arms the base everything has coil springs including the front panel which sits behind your legs, this panel is usually a solid piece of timber and can be quite stiff when you sit down, on this its as mentioned sprung, I have included a picture of me compressing it with my fist. What this means is this sofa is actually very comfortable, most normal Chesterfields are really quite a stiff affair, not this little diamond These models are classed as metal framed Victorian Chesterfields and are rare as they come. The frame has a sloped back and sides variation with oversized padding, I haven't seen the model before, its an very special Chesterfield The sofa has been fully restored to include having the old colour stripped out, its then been hand dyed this glorious cigar brown colour, which is exclusive to my leather polishers. The padding is all original horse hair filled so it has that great crunch. The legs are solid mahogany and solid to the frame not later additions, the frame also has the external middle support bean on the base, common with Howard Son's, Jas Shoolbred and other fine Victorian sofa makers Dimensions Height 82cm Width 218cm Depth 85.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
