New Stock ✅ Vintage Bonanza Three Seater Black Leather Sofa by Esko Pajamies for Asko Mid Century Retro MCM This unique, comfortable and super stylish Bonanza black leather three-seater sofa comes in blonde oak designed by Esko Pajamies for the Finnish furniture producer Asko in the 1960s. Inspired by brutalist architecture, Finnish designer and interior designer Esko Pajamies created the incredible lines of this sofa in solid oak and soft black leather. Breaks in the rounded lines and visible joints highlight the materials and the original straight-tail assembly. The smooth black leather is warm, a deep glossy black shade in restored condition. Finnish design company Asko was founded in Lahti in 1918 by cabinetmaker Aukusti Avonius. Right away, the workshop’s operations apart from the competition, because its founder focused on serial production and retail distribution, rather than the one-off and custom work that dominated the carpentry trade at the time. Over the last 100 years, Asko has grown into one of the largest Finnish furniture and appliances brands, with great successes in exporting Finnish designs abroad. In the postwar years, Asko was responsible for producing some of the most iconic Finnish designs of the modernist era. Esko Pajamies was a renowned Finnish designer, born in 1936 in Lahti, Finland, and died in 2014. He studied at Helsinki University of Art and Design (Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture), graduating in 1962. Esko Pajamies founded his own design office in the late 60s, and proceeded to design many now-iconic pieces for private and public spaces. Some of his most famous designs - such as the Bonanza set - combine leather and wood. His workshop was awarded the State Prize in the Arts Industry in 1979.
