About the Item

Early and Rare Stool by Hans Bølling for Torben Ørskov. Denmark, 1960s. An early and increasingly rare stool designed by Hans Bølling for Torben Ørskov, executed in solid oak with a quilted canvas seat and dating from the 1960s. This model is seldom encountered with both its original oak structure and canvas seat intact, making this example particularly noteworthy. The restrained form and honest use of materials reflect Bølling’s refined approach to functional Danish design, where simplicity, comfort, and material clarity are carefully balanced. The oak frame displays a well-developed natural patina, while the quilted canvas seat remains in unusually good original condition, retaining both structure and character. Together, the materials underscore the stool’s utilitarian origins while lending it a quiet sculptural presence. Presented in very good vintage condition, this stool functions equally well as seating or as an occasional piece and represents a strong example of Danish design from the post-war period.
