A Rare Pair of Iconic Stools from the the French Directoire period (1795 -1803). These Elegant and Exquisite Pair of French Directory period stools / benches have dramatic round tapered legs that are partially cantilevered over the frame and a rare three leg and three corner structure. The pieces with their architectural structure demonstrate the sober nature of the directory period from which both mid-century modern and neoclassical movements gained inspiration. Andre Arbus and other French creators of the 1940s gained insight from pieces such as these from this period.
