About the Item

Stool or poof designed by George Nakashima for Widdicomb Furniture Company in the late 1950s. Produced in the United States circa 1958. Dating from the period following the Widdicomb - Mueller merger, when the company worked with outside designers (such as George Nakashima), to develop modern furniture for production. Nakashima’s contributions to Widdicomb represent a distinct phase of his practice, adapting principles from his studio work to standardized models intended for broader distribution. Walnut base with a re-upholstered seat in French mohair and leather piping. Marked “George Nakashima” signature on the underside with client’s name. It is documented in the Widdicomb manufacturer’s catalog (page 17). Provenance: Private collection, United States In very good and original condition, edition Widdicomb.
