A Giltwood Rope Stool After A.M.E. Fournier, 19th Century
Provenance: Private Australian Collection.
Description:
A type of stool in vogue during the third quarter of the 19th century designed by French upholsterer A.M.E. Fournier. The circular cushion piped, buttoned and upholstered in a light green William Morris style linen, the gilded frame intricately carved as to resemble twisting braids, a large knot in the centre forming a stylised 'X' stretcher, uniting the four legs , each foot rendered as a knotted end of fraying rope.
