Large Swedish Rattan Tripod Stool in the Style of Tony Paul, Sweden, 1950s
A striking large tripod stool in rattan and cane, executed in the style of Tony Paul. The stool originates from a 1950s family vacation cottage in the Swedish coastal town of Höllviken and was acquired directly from the family of the original owner.
Remarkably well preserved, the stool has been kept in near-mint condition. With its generous diameter of 45 cm, the intact wicker seat displays a beautiful light golden glow, while the solid turned birch legs show virtually no signs of use.
When turned upside down, the stool reveals its clever glueless joinery, where the cane seat and birch legs are precisely fitted together. This minimal yet highly intelligent construction demonstrates a deep understanding of materials and how wood behaves over time. The joinery remains fully functional decades after the stool was made, underscoring its exceptional craftsmanship.
Both sculptural and practical, this stool functions equally well as seating, a side table, or a decorative accent.
