About the Item

“Mono” Stool / Side Table in Solid Oak Design by Bjarke Frederiksen Copenhagen, Denmark, 2024 A sculptural contemporary stool or side table crafted in solid Danish oak. Mono is defined by elegant construction lines and beautifully expressive grain, allowing the natural character of the oak to take center stage. The design reflects a refined balance between softness and strength, combining modern Scandinavian minimalism with subtle brutalist undertones. The precise joinery and structural clarity recall details found in traditional Japanese woodworking, as well as the calm rationality of mid-century Danish architecture and furniture. From every angle, the interplay of lines, shadows, and planes transforms the piece into a shifting sculptural object—equally functional and expressive. This work stands as a contemporary interpretation of modern Scandinavian design, where material honesty, craftsmanship, and architectural thinking are seamlessly united. Dimensions: Height: 45 cm Width: 39 cm Depth: 31 cm Seat height: 45 cm ⸻ About the Designer Bjarke Frederiksen is a Danish designer and cabinetmaker based in Copenhagen. He completed the traditional Danish cabinetmaker’s apprenticeship with honors and later graduated as a designer from the Royal Danish Academy. Frederiksen’s work begins at the drawing desk and is realized at the workbench in his Copenhagen studio, where years of hands-on experience inform every proportion and detail. His intuitive understanding of wood and construction is evident throughout his designs. He gained international attention with the launch of his iconic Nordic Nomad Chair (now Nomad), a conceptual work that attracted the attention of trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort and was selected for her MoBA exhibition. A refined and collectible contemporary design, Mono represents the next generation of Scandinavian craftsmanship and sculptural furniture design.
