About the Item
Adopting an archetypal shape that reappears throughout the studio’s work, the Orvalho Stool begins as a solid block, carved into a perfect T-shape.
The stepped cuts along the sides provide the playground to create layered perspectives of the interaction between the grid and vine, exposing different facets as the viewer moves - wood grain, ornamentation, structure.
The pattern features a static grid, as well as vines that meander and curve across the lines. It plays on human’s naive attempts at controlling nature, order and chaos. All pieces are made form solid cherry wood, laser-cut and painted by hand in several layers.
Orvalho Stool was part of the performance Exhibition "The Theater of Things" the show transformed the gallery into a domestic stage — an ever-evolving space shaped by the creative voices of seven designers. Each night, one of them slept in the space. Each morning, a journalist, curator, or critic joined for coffee and conversation — exploring what it means to live among collectible pieces.
Inspired by radical gestures like Gianni Pettena’s La Casa all’Elba and Joseph Beuys’ Coyote performance, the exhibition is both lived experience and open dialogue.
