Pair of Mid-Century Modern Brass “X” Stools, by Sarreid, Spain, circa 1960s This sculptural pair of mid-century modern stools exemplifies the refined yet tactile metalwork for which Sarreid is best known. Produced in Spain circa the 1960s, each stool is constructed entirely of hand-worked brass, featuring a cylindrical form articulated by intersecting X-shaped supports that create a dynamic open framework. The brass surfaces display a hammered, planished texture, a traditional metalworking technique that leaves subtle, rhythmic indentations across the bands and struts. This texturing not only strengthens the material but also gives the stools their richly nuanced surface, now enhanced by decades of natural oxidation and use. The resulting patina ranges from warm brown to olive and soft golden highlights, lending the pair exceptional depth and character. Structurally, the stools are anchored by circular top and base rings, secured with exposed brass rivets that emphasize their honest, handcrafted construction.
