This rustic French chalet stool was handcrafted in solid pine during the 1970s and embodies the warm, natural character associated with Alpine and mountain-lodge interiors. Its simple, honest construction and organic material make it a charming and highly decorative piece that fits seamlessly into both traditional and contemporary environments.
The stool features a classic Alpine silhouette: a thick pine top with softened edges resting on a sturdy cross-shaped base. This type of vernacular craftsmanship was common in rural French mountain regions, where furniture was built by hand using locally sourced timber. The piece shows a beautiful natural patina, enriched by decades of gentle use. Subtle wear, color variations, knots in the wood, and small irregularities all contribute to its authentic, lived-in aesthetic.
Because of its compact proportions and sculptural presence, the stool is versatile in use: ideal as a low side table, nightstand, plant stand, or occasional seating. It also functions beautifully as a display pedestal for ceramics or sculptural objects. In modern interiors, it introduces warmth and texture, enhancing minimalist or stone-dominant spaces with rustic character.
We currently have five stools available, all sourced from the same French Alpine interior. Minor variations occur between individual pieces due to their handcrafted nature, but all share comparable condition and patina. Each stool is checked and lightly cleaned in our workshop prior to dispatch while preserving the original character.
