About the Item
A lovely pair of mid-century modern nautilus asymmetrical swivel lounge chairs in a light green ultrasuede. This pair came to use already reupholstered so labels are not intact. The previous owner said they were purchased at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. These chairs feature a unique asymmetrical silhouette that not only enhances their aesthetic appeal but also provides exceptional comfort and support. The swivel function allows for versatile seating arrangements, making them a perfect addition to any contemporary living space.
Vladimir Kagan (1927–2016) was a pioneering American designer celebrated for reshaping modernism through his sinuous, biomorphic furniture. Influenced by his father's master cabinetry and the Bauhaus movement, Kagan rejected the stark, rectilinear forms of his contemporaries in favor of what he called "vessels for the human body"—sculptural pieces designed to follow the natural curves of the spine. His most iconic work, the Serpentine Sofa (1949), revolutionized social spaces by moving seating away from walls and into the center of the room to encourage conversation. Throughout a career spanning seven decades, he masterfully blended traditional handcrafted furniture with innovative materials, creating timeless classics. Today, his designs remain highly collectible status symbols found in major museums like the Museum of Modern Art and the homes of global tastemakers.
