About the Item
Fantastic pair of country French provincial hooded porters chairs or balloon chairs crafted from oak. The domed chairs feature an oak frame having a cerused finish with distinctive balloon or canopy backs. Each chair is upholstered with matching fabric that has contrasting front and backs. The inside fabric has an intentionally aged and faded patina with a concentric dotted circle motif. The backs have a quatrefoil motif design on the fabric. The upholstery is bordered with patinated brass tack nail head trim. The oak is beautifully carved with floral designs on the legs and apron. The chairs are in very good, well preserved condition. From an estate in San Francisco, California. The design of the chairs was inspired by an 18th century French provincial and Louis XV tastes in a modern country aesthetic. The chairs are supported by classic cabriole legs and have a handsome profile with a whimsical style and flare. Sold as a pair.
