About the Item
Mid size apothecary chest, medicine chest of drawers - "Kusuri dansu" in Japanese - product of late Edo era (1780s-1868), estimate from the style
conditions. Pieces of old paper labels are still remain.
There're the numbering on the side of each drawer box, written by the calligraphy, which numbering styles are typically Edo way.
The outer structural parts (Top board, side, back, bottom panels) are made of quality Sugi Cedar.
The other parts (horizontal
vertical shelves
drawers) made of Kiri (Paulownia), known to its right weight, natural repellent
humidity resistance, Kiri is considered as an Ideal wood material for storing delicate materials.
There's a loss area on the one of the small drawer's face. it's not affected for opening
closing. I see it's one of nice wabi sabi elements together with the remains of paper labels - but feel free to inquire for repairing.
Overall, It's still durable enough for actual use.
