A scarce antique Italian hand painted lacca povera tabletop cabinet. circa 1775
Northern Italy, 18th century, likely used in a wealthy merchant or noble's country villa as a vargueño / papelera (writing instrument and document box) or collectors cabinet (for valuables).
Hand-crafted solid pine construction with elaborate polychrome decoration throughout, having a long narrow rectangular case fitted with seven drawers surrounding an open niche pigeonhole shelf, richly decorated with paintings of pastoral scenes, figures engaging in period leisure activities including shooting, flying a kite and boating, projecting shaped sides, scalloped apron, rising on bracket feet.

Very good antique condition, especially considering its over 200 years old!
Attractive appearance, with original paint finish, nicely aged warm rustic patina with scattered chippy paint losses and exposed gesso, fading, nicks, minor abrasions, typical wear consistent with two centuries of age and use. Structurally sound. Overall a superb museum quality example
