Beautiful Chinese apothecary medicine chests dating to circa 1840-1860 from the Shanxi province, China.
45 drawers and original lacquer. Drawers still with some remains of the descriptions with the name of different medicinal herbs.
Previously in China, the doctor and pharmacist were the same person and the medicine chest was used for storage of minerals and herbs that were included in natural medicine.
