About the Item

Antiques of London A superb English oak haberdashery shop counter, dating to circa 1920s, rich in character and commercial history. Originally used in a traditional Victorian-style shop setting, this substantial counter retains its original glass panels, offering an authentic glimpse into early 20th-century retail craftsmanship. The piece has been carefully restored and traditionally French polished, bringing out the depth, warmth, and natural beauty of the oak while preserving its honest, time-earned character. The original handles have been professionally polished, enhancing their detail and adding a subtle refinement to the overall presentation. The original glass has been deliberately retained for authenticity, though it can be replaced if the new owner wishes, at cost price. As expected for a piece of this nature, there is some surface wear to the top, entirely consistent with its working life as a shop counter and adding to its genuine patina and appeal. A striking and versatile piece—ideal as a retail display, kitchen island, bar counter, or statement interior feature—combining heritage, craftsmanship, and undeniable presence.
