About the Item

This mid-18th Century Chest was sourced in Hungary and is a striking example of traditional folk and rural craftsmanship. This piece would have been a central element in a young bride's dowry - a symbolic and functional piece designed to store linens textiles and personal keepsakes, gifted to mark the union of the two families. Here we have the wedding year of 1846. Both decorative and historical this marriage chest would make an evocative statement in a rustic or eclectic interior. Increasingly rare, this chest is complete with original lining and working key. A few bumps and scrapes but generally in good condition.
