About the Item

Rare and early German Stollentruhe, dating from around 1620. This compact 17th-century oak chest combines historical significance with visual presence. Entirely crafted from solid oak, it offers museum-quality heritage in a highly usable and decorative form – ideal for collectors, designers, or characterful interiors. The front is richly adorned with hand-carved geometric decoration. Two large panels feature elegant diamond latticework bordered with stylized cloverleaf motifs, while the central panel is recessed and left plain for contrast. The clean symmetry and precise execution lend the piece a restrained yet refined look. Just beneath the lid, a beautifully carved decorative band runs across the front, with a repeating motif that adds rhythm and refinement to the whole. The chest also retains its original hand-forged iron hinges and has a deep, warm brown surface with a soft sheen and a richly aged patina developed over more than 400 years. Inside, a small compartment with a hinged lid supports the main lid when opened. The chest has been gently cleaned in our workshop, is structurally sound, and fully ready for everyday use – as a storage chest, statement piece, or heirloom. Pieces like this were originally made for noble or wealthy households and are exceptionally rare on today’s market. Highly sought after by collectors, interior decorators, and lovers of authentic antiques, this chest offers a unique opportunity to own a genuine piece of early European furniture history.
