About the Item

This beautiful trunk or blanket chest was made in Austria and is dated 1888. The brick red decorative wave pattern paint is authentic to the piece. The chest is elevated on bracket feet and is equipped with the original hinges, keyplate, lock, and key. On the right-hand side, the year 1888 and the name “Sophie” were carved in wet paint. That indicates the trunk may have been part of a dowry or wedding present. On the interior, there is a small compartment that can be closed by a lid. With the lid in an upright position, it also supports the painted lid. The chest has clearly been used over the many years. It shows some fading of the paint on the top, as well as a deep patina overall. The trunk has a very natural and bohemian appearance and is ready for use.
