About the Item
A gorgeous rustic Eastern European pine blanket chest with original deep green and brick red paint, likely from the Czech Republic and dating to the late 1800s. Floral and leaf wreath motifs embellish the brick red medallions. Dovetail construction is evident at the corners. Old iron key escutcheon is intact but the lock is missing. The interior has ample storage and a candlebox. This is a strong, sturdy piece ready for many years of use. The box is finished with Fiddes Supreme Wax in Antique Brown and is buffed to a beautiful buttery glow. This is a sturdy box, ready for many years of use... at the foot of a bed, in a hallway or entryway, or as a coffee table.
Measures 23.5"H x 47.25"W x 27"D
Condition commensurate with age and use. Random scratches, inactive wormhole damage, and imperfections in the wood and painted surface. Some old rings are evident in the top. The top is heavily abraded but this adds to the rustic charm of this piece. This chest has a beautiful patina that will increase over time with use. Just buff with a soft brush or and old t-shirt to increase the shine.
