About the Item
Beautiful painted bridal chest from Germany, specifically from the Franconian Alb. The chest is painted in oxblood red and features beautiful floral decorations on the front panels. This old paint is quite worn and weathered, giving it a rustic and characteristic appearance. Sporadic traces of old woodworm can be seen, which have naturally been treated and inspected. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This example dates from 1840. The chest still has its original working lock and key.
