Early 20th century, richly carved Chinese trunk with decorations on all sides. If you are looking for a decorative and useful piece of furniture with a distinct Asian design then this all handcrafted Chinese 'blanket chest' could be perfect. By the way, just because it is called a blanket chest this does not mean that it has to be used as such. Although it would look great at the footend of a bed, filled with blankets, bed linnen or otherwise. The different than usual design with its large amount of typical Chinese elements is what immediately drew our attention. The ornately hand carved oval section in the middle combined with the rare design truly makes this trunk a spectacular piece to own and enjoy. Ad to that the hand-carved boats and small islands in a lighter wood and also the completely hand hammered and hand engraved lockplate and lock and you have a piece of furniture that will never fail to impress. So this unique work-of-art-chest also comes with the original and perfect working brass lock and key and in image 7 you can see that even the bottom of the lock is completely hand engraved. This enormous attention to detail you don't see anymore in this day and age and it must have taken more than one artisan at least a few weeks to fully hand-craft this remarkable chest. The outside is entirely handcrafted out of solid teakwood, but the inside is made of solid camphor wood. Apart from a fresh smell this special wood was also used, because moths (who are particularly fond of woollen blankets) cannot stand camphor. It really is their 'kryptonite'.
