About the Item

Early 19th century Rustic Swedish Painted Trunk ~ Blanket Chest ~ Coffee Table will make a charming addition to your casual decor! Considered essential for storage and travel back in the day, the Swedish examples were made from solid planks of plentiful indigenous old-growth pine which attained a significant hardness to it due to the slow-growth in the northern climates. Here we see an example of rural artisans employing dovetail joinery and skids to the casework, with reinforcing base molding around the bottom, and forged iron folding handles on each side for ease in transport. The top is hinged with hand forged strap iron, and the entire affair shows evidence of more than one color scheme hand painted on it over the decades for a charming rustic, distressed look that in no way describes the sturdy, no-nonsense design that will surely last another century or more! Painted all around, it will make a great coffee table with storage, as well! circa 1830s Measures 19H x 33W x 19D.
