About the Item

An English oak chest from the 19th century, combining traditional paneled craftsmanship with practical storage features. The hinged rectangular top opens to reveal a deep, open compartment, ideal for storing linens, documents, or personal treasures. The front is decorated with three inset panels, the central one topped by an ornate pierced brass escutcheon, adding a refined decorative detail against the warm oak grain. Below, a projecting base houses two small drawers with round brass pulls, providing additional space for smaller items. The chest rests on a shaped apron, the scalloped outline lending a touch of softness to the otherwise sturdy form. The sides and back retain the honest character of hand-planed boards, showing the natural movement and color variation of the oak. The mellow patina speaks to its age, with a surface that has developed warmth and depth over time.
