About the Item
An exceptionally large painted bridal chest from southern Germany. Its impressive size, comparable to that of a cabinet, makes this chest ideal for use as a dresser or statement piece in your interior. The chest is painted in a deep dark blue base color, combined with soft red panels. Within these panels, graceful C-scrolls with acanthus leaves are placed. A date is inscribed on the chest, but it is difficult to read; it is likely 1811, which is entirely accurate.
The paint shows beautiful, characteristic wear, particularly on the lid. Old, sporadic woodworm marks have been treated and checked. The chest has an original lock and key and is fully functional. A very impressive and decorative piece of folk art.
